New beginnings

Lene shaw/ Finland

In 2017, I left Panama to go live in Finland for love. Yes, just as you read it, for love. I left my country with many mixed feelings but very eager to start a new adventure.

Arriving in Finland was easy but adapting to the people, the culture, the winter and the language was the hard part. Finns (not all of them) are very reserved and you have to gain their trust; as for the language, as you know, it is one of the most difficult in the world but with a lot of practice you can learn it. The winter was the most difficult for me, in the movies they show you that everything is white and beautiful but the reality is very different, it is dark and very cold but thanks to the friendships I made in the Finnish courses I managed to survive the unforgivable Finnish winter.

In July 2017, I applied to Lappeenranta University of Technology to study a master's degree in Supply Management. When I passed the first phase of the process, the university called me for interview and my husband was nervous, he gave me a series of indications of things not to do in the interview, but as I am not very obedient I just went ME in the whole interview. After a few months I received the best news, I was accepted and so began the next adventure, moving to another city.

Hi Lene, it must be hard to live so far away from home, really an adventure!

How long did it take you to learn the language?
Was it difficult to obtain residency?

May you have an eternal honeymoon!

if it is very difficult to live away from home.

As for your questions, I am still learning the language and for the residency they ask for a lot of documents.

thank you for your good wishes.

Lene❤️, I love that you have created this space to share your experience with the world. Perhaps many people are about to undertake the same adventure that you are living, but still do not dare. This space can serve as motivation for them. I hope you keep writing and sharing with us your new life story in Filandia.
